MANILA, Philippines - Rain or Shine showed their dominance on both ends of the floor to demolish a hapless Globalport crew, 99-75 in the PLDT Home TVolution PBA Commissioner's Cup on Monday, March 31 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Elasto Painters hauled down 66 rebounds – including 18 on the offensive glass – and dished out 24 assists to pull out a commanding win against the winless Batang Pier side.
The Batang Pier only mustered 43 boards and 9 dimes as Rain or Shine, which led by as much as 26, improved to 3-3 in the team standings.
Paul Lee scored 21 points including 5 long-range bombs while Wayne Chism, who replaced Alex McLean last week, debuted with 17 points and 16 caroms.
With Evan Brock making impact points early, the Batang Pier were able to buck off a lackluster start and tie the match at 24 apiece.
However, that was before the Elasto Painters switched to high gear, running over Globalport in the second quarter they outscored the latter, 22-12.
The onslaught continued in the opening moments of the third frame, with Wayne Chism and Beau Belga connecting on baskets that buried the Batang Pier. A triple by the Rain or Shine import pushed the lead up to 62-44.
Coach Pido Jarencio's troops managed to cut the deficit down to 52-62 behind an RR Garcia trey, although they failed to follow up as the ROS lead kept ballooning towards the end.
Globalport never recovered as they dropped to 0-7 in the conference, officially saying goodbye to their playoff hopes.
