How the mighty have fallen—and yet, perhaps, to rise again.
Though it has been overtaken in recent years by the likes of Samsung and Apple, Nokia may soon be reborn as Microsoft Mobile, if a supposed letter leaked online is accurate.
Enthusiast site NokiaPowerUser, which posted what appeared to be a copy of the letter, said the communication appears to be directed at Nokia's devices and services business suppliers.
"Please note that upon the close of the transaction between Microsoft and Nokia, the name of Nokia Corporation/Nokia Oyj will change to Microsoft Mobile Oy. Microsoft Mobile Oy is the legal entity name that should be used for VAT IDs and for the issuance of invoices," part of the letter read.
Also, it said Microsoft Mobile will have new bank accounts, though there is no change in the invoice sending method.
Nokia indicated it expects to complete the sale of its Devices and Services Business to Microsoft Corp. this month.
Meanwhile, it said Microsoft will assume all rights, benefits and obligations of the Nokia Devices and Services business, including Nokia’s agreements with suppliers, customers and partners pertaining to the Devices and Services business.
"Therefore, the purpose of this letter is to update you that the current terms and conditions that you have with the Devices and Services business will not change," it added.
A separate article on Mashable said this means "Nokia Corporation, at least the hardware business Microsoft purchased, becomes Microsoft Mobile."
Earlier, Microsoft announced plans to acquire Nokia for $7.2 billion in September 2013, and Nokia shareholders approved the deal in November. — GMA News
