Dubai needs over 4,000 skilled Pinay workers – TESDA

Youngkies Aquino never finished college, but she is determined to earn for her family.

To achieve this, she took up a plumbing course under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

“Mas malaking sweldo, tapos nakakatulong kapag nagpapadala dito, nakakatulong ng malaki,” said Aquino, 21, the eldest in a brood of four, regarding her plan to seek employment abroad.

She may be in luck, because according to TESDA secretary general Joel Villanueva, there are 4,200 job vacancies for female skilled workers from the Philippines in Dubai.

“Just last week may mga napa-deploy na po tayo. Next week may ipapa-deploy pa tayo,” Villanueva said in Pia Arcangel's report on “24 Oras” Monday night.

Most of the job vacancies are for electrical installation and maintenance, plumbing, refrigeration and airconditioning.

Those in need of workers are government hospitals, banks and universities, the report said, quoting Villanueva.

Those who will be employed will receive a monthly salary of $650 to $750 or P29,000 to P34,000, it added.

Elaine Acedo, a licensed architect who is also taking up plumbing in TESDA, said she is also mulling going abroad because of the opportunities in Dubai.

“Promising yung mga nag-aantay na opportunities abroad,” she said.

Acedo said she took up plumbing because it is related to her profession.

The report said TESDA is willing to subsidize the training of those who want to apply for the jobs in Dubai. —GMA News
