CBCP wants One Direction to be banned from the Philippines

Thusday, 5 June 2014 | 0:29

An official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) wants to prevent the boyband One Direction from performing in the country.

The popular English-Irish boy band is scheduled to hold the Manila leg of their on The Road Again Tour at the SM Mall Of Asia Concert Grounds from March 21-22, 2014.

A report published on The Philippine Star indicates that CBCP Episcopal Commission on Youth (ECY) executive secretary Fr. Conegundo Garganta called upon President Noynoy Aquino to ban One Direction from holding their two-day concert in the Philippines.

According to the CBCP official, parents should not lead their children in the “wrong direction.”

He also pointed out that concert organizers "should practice discernment" when choosing the artists who will perform in the Philippines.

Garganta was quoted as saying: “I think that even the local organizers do not want to have a culture of youth being stoned. That could become a problem for them."

It was recently reported by Mail Online, the web version of the British tabloid Daily Mail, that two members of One Direction were "laughing and joking about marijuana" in a video that has gone viral.

According to the Mail Online report, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson shared a "roll-up 'joint'" during the Latin America leg of their 2014 Stadium Tour.

Louis can be heard on the video saying: "One very very important factor of Zayn’s warm up, of course, is Mary J, herself."

"Mary J" is slang for marijuana. - PEP.PH
