Anger and anxiety continue to swamp the
relatives of the passengers of Malaysia Airlines MH370 as they struggle
to receive any type of good news from the ongoing search operations for
the missing plane.
In a report from the Chinese media,
several relatives of the passengers claimed that they were able to
successfully reach the mobile phones of some of the passengers on board
but the calls were not picked up.
“This morning, around 11:40 a.m., I
called my older brother’s number twice, and I got the ringing tone,”
said Bian Liangwei, sister of one of the passengers. At 2 p.m., Liangwei
called and heard it ring again.
It was the same story for another man
from Beijing who called his brother’s phone, even doing it in the
presence of reporters, and got connected indicating that the phone is
working and can be answered from somewhere.
Many of the relatives have passed on the
mobile numbers to the authorities and urged them to use this
information to track the possible location of their loved ones through
Global Positioning System (GPS).
Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Commercial
Director Hugh Dunleavy added that the airline is also trying to reach
the mobile phones of the crew members, which were also ringing, and have
been turned over to Chinese investigators.
Meanwhile, MAS spokesman Ignatius Ong
said at a press conference “I myself have called the number five times
while the airline’s command center also called the number. We got no
answering tone,” he shared as he tried calling one of the numbers that
had been given to the airline’s command office in Kuala Lumpur.
This development raises more concerns about what has happened to Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
As reported by China.org.cn, 19 families
have already made a joint statement confirming that their family
members’ cellphones got connected but the calls were hung up.
The relatives of the passengers continue
to hound MAS to reveal any type of information they could be concealing
in relation to the bizarre phone connections.
Some enraged family members are now even
threatening to protest in front of the Malaysian Embassy in China if
the airline continues to hide the truth.
