MANILA, Philippines – “I said yes,” announced OPM pop-rock singer Yeng Constantino in an Instagram photo posted Saturday, February 8, showing off her engagement ring.
According to a report by Buzz ng Bayan aired on Sunday, March 9, Constantino and her non-showbiz boyfriend Yan Asuncion were engaged in a private proposal in a field at The Fort, where the couple reportedly had their first date.
The proposal happened after the two watched a play with a group of friends including actor Sam Milby and comedian Eugene Domingo.
In an interview in the same episode, the couple revealed that although they had only been dating for 8 months, they knew they were meant for each other in the long run. The two met in 2012 and became a couple in June 2013, and they are each other’s first boyfriend and girlfriend.
“Actually nung first time pa lang ako nagsabi na liligawan ko siyaalam ko na siya yung gusto ko habang buhay,” said Asuncion, who according to the report, was once rejected by the singer. (Actually, the first time I told her I would court her, I already knew she was the one I wanted for life.)

Narrating the events of the proposal, Constantino said that while her groom-to-be had tears in his eyes, she couldn’t contain her laughter. She said she was surprised when he suddenly got down on one knee and offered her the ring.
According to Constantino, he proposed saying, “Ikaw yung best friend ko, sorry hindi ko na kayang patagalin pa...gusto kitang makasama habang buhay.” (You are my best friend, I’m sorry I can’t prolong this... I want to be with you for the rest of my life.)
For his part, Asuncion said he was extremely nervous, to the point of almost throwing up.
Elated, Constantino said she is still “overwhelmed” and on a high from the proposal, adding that she is very happy Asuncion took that “leap of faith.”
The couple has yet to discuss further details about the wedding.
Constantino stepped into the spotlight after winning the first season of reality singing TV competition Pinoy Dream Academy in 2006. The singer went on to release tracks such as "Hawak Kamay" and "Salamat." Meanwhile, Asuncion serves as the vocalist of alternative band Indios. – Rappler.com
