Model-stylist Deniece Cornejo surrendered on Monday to the Philippine National Police (PNP), weeks after a court ordered her arrest for the January 22 mauling of actor-TV host Vhong Navarro.
Cornejo surrended past 4 p.m. to PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima at the PNP Headquarters in Camp Crame, GMA News TV's “Balita Pilipinas” reported. She was accompanied by her great-uncle Rod and lawyers Connie Aquino and Arleo Magtibay.
The dzBB report quoted lawyer Ferdinand Topacio as saying there was a "prior arrangement" for Cornejo to show up. However, Topacio claimed he was representing the Cornejo family and not Deniece.
At Camp Crame, Cornejo underwent booking proceedings where she had her fingerprints and mug shots taken.
She will be temporarily detained at the PNP Custodial Center, “Balita Pilipinas” reported.
Purisima said there will be no special treatment for Cornejo, the same report added.
Cornejo is set to be presented to Taguig Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 271 Judge Paz Esperanza M. Cortes, who issued a warrant of arrest against her, businessman Cedric Lee and three others for serious illegal detentionin connection to the mauling of Navarro.
Last month, Lee and another suspect, Simeon "Zimmer" Raz, were arrested in Oras, Eastern Samar, by agents from the National Bureau of Investigation.
Serious illegal detention is a non-bailable case. Cornejo, Lee, Raz and four other suspects are facing a separate case of grave coercion, also in connection with the mauling incident. — GMA News
